Job summary

Glencore’s George Fisher Mine in Mt Isa, QLD, is seeking a Geotechnical Practice Lead to provide technical leadership across monitoring, stability analysis, and support design for underground operations. The role focuses on improving geotechnical quality, team capability, and operational decision-making.

The candidate will bring deep geotechnical expertise, strategic thinking, and practical experience in ground control and stope design, with flexibility around residential Mt Isa or FIFO

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Geotechnical Engineering or related discipline.
• Significant underground metalliferous mining experience in geotechnical engineering roles.
• Experience in ground control, excavation performance, support design, stope and development geotechnical assessment, and monitoring systems.
• Strong understanding of underground mining methods and the interaction between geology, stress, excavation geometry, sequencing and support performance.
• Knowledge of geotechnical risk assessment, TARPs, inspections, instrumentation and reconciliation processes.
• Ability to apply geotechnical analysis to practical operational decisions.
• Experience leading technical teams, mentoring engineers and setting clear standards and expectations.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership across geotechnical monitoring, excavation stability and support design.
• Oversee stope design guideline optimisation and development geotechnical assessment.
• Manage geotechnical risk and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Lead technical teams and mentor engineers to meet standards and expectations.
