Job summary

Anglo American Australia’s Aquila Mine near Middlemount, Queensland, seeks a Geotechnical Engineer to lead underground geotechnical oversight, design ground support, and ensure safety and productivity in a modern longwall operation.

This role reports to the Technical Services Superintendent and offers a 7 on 7 off roster, residential/FIFO options, and a competitive package including 12% super and annual bonus. Experience with underground coal and geotechnical software is essential.

Qualifications

Tertiary degree in Geotechnical Engineering or similar.
Proven underground coal experience within a Geotechnical Engineering role.
Experience with computer aided mine design programs, geotechnical software, and other business software.
Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) would be highly advantageous or willingness to obtain recognition
Ability to understand functionality of business systems and provide relevant data for business purposes

Responsibilities

Maintain geotechnical oversight of underground operations and audit compliance with corporate standards and approved support designs.
Design ground support and monitoring systems to support safe and productive mine operations.
Conduct regular underground inspections to audit installed strata support and strata conditions to confirm the effectiveness in accordance with the approved support designs.
Provide strategic advice to the Technical Services and Mining Operations departments on how to maximise the value of the operation.
Advise management and operational staff on geotechnical issues.
Manage the Strata Defect System and ensure compliance with the Geotechnical Operational Management System.
Advise and assist engineers with recommendations on geotechnical and hydro-geological issues regarding mine design, planning and operations.
Understand and comply with all legislative and company safety, health, environment, cost and production objectives, guidelines, procedures, and requirements relevant to the professional management of ground conditions.
Provide mentoring and training to personnel with respect to strata support systems.
