Job summary

Anglo American Australia’s Aquila Mine near Middlemount, QLD, seeks a Geotechnical Engineer to support safe, sustainable extraction of premium steelmaking coal. You’ll lead geotechnical oversight, design ground support, and provide expert advice across Technical Services and Mining Operations.

The role involves mentoring, audits, and collaboration with operations to maximise value while complying with safety and environmental standards. Relocation and roster options are available.

Qualifications

• Tertiary degree in Geotechnical Engineering or similar discipline.
• Proven underground coal experience within a Geotechnical Engineering role.
• Experience with geotechnical and mine design software.
• RPEQ registration or willingness to obtain recognition.
• Ability to interpret data from business systems.

Responsibilities

• Maintain geotechnical oversight of underground operations and audit compliance with standards.
• Design ground support and monitoring systems for safe operations.
• Conduct regular underground inspections to audit strata support and conditions.
• Provide strategic geotechnical advice to Technical Services and Mining Operations.
• Advise management on geotechnical issues.
• Manage the Strata Defect System and ensure compliance with Geotechnical OPS guidelines.
• Advise on geotechnical/hydro-geological issues related to mine design and operations.
• Comply with safety, health, environment, cost and production objectives.
