Job summary

BHP is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to join the Caval Ridge team and support mine planning and operations. You will be the single point of contact for geotechnical matters on site, delivering essential geotechnical support for safe coal extraction. This role offers an 8/6 roster and active involvement in pit progression strategies.

You will contribute to safety, design, and compliance with Queensland Acts while collaborating with operations and planning teams to optimize mining outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in geological engineering, engineering geology, geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, or mining engineering.
• Minimum 1.5 years of experience in an operational mine environment.
• Minimum 6 months experience in mine geotechnical analysis and risk assessment, including slope design in soil, spoil and rock.
• Exposure to Coal measure lithologies and mining practices is highly desirable.
• RPEQ status or willingness to work towards it is highly regarded.
• Knowledge of Vulcan or Deswik, RocScience software and geotechnical monitoring equipment is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate an unwavering commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility, and sustainable development.
• Provide leadership in identifying and managing geotechnical risks in mine design and execution.
• Conduct geotechnical stability assessments and deliver designs for mine planning.
• Offer expert geotechnical advice to operational and planning teams to effectively manage hazards.
• Perform inspections and monitoring of active mining areas, issuing geotechnical hazard reports and instrumentation requirements.
• Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, including the QLD Coal Mining Safety and Health Act and the QLD Professional Engineers Act.
• Continuously identify and implement opportunities for improvement in geotechnical practices.
