Job summary

NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) is seeking a Geospatial Data Scientist to collate, validate, analyze and model spatial data using AI and statistical workflows. You will work with hyperspectral, multispectral and LiDAR data to produce analysis-ready products supporting multiple research projects.

You will develop machine learning and statistical models, publish findings to scientific and government audiences, and collaborate across government and academia

Qualifications

• Post-graduate degree with extensive applied experience in data and statistics.
• Experience applying AI and statistical workflows to environmental data.
• Experience with hyperspectral, multispectral or LiDAR data.
• Strong programming skills (Python preferred; R or C++) and data visualization with ggplot/Tableau.
• Experience with 3D point cloud software.
• Experience handling very large datasets on cloud/Linux.
• A current NSW driver licence.

Responsibilities

• Turn remotely sensed data into insights shaping forest monitoring and management.
• Develop ML, deep learning, and statistical models for forest attributes.
• Publish and present findings to scientific, government and industry audiences.
• Collaborate across government and academia and contribute to research proposals.
• Occasionally collect data in the NSW forests.
