Job summary

Geospatial Data Scientist role with NSW DPIRD Forest Research collates and analyzes spatial data using AI and statistical methods. You will work with hyperspectral, multispectral and LiDAR data to build robust models and data products that underpin current and future research projects.

Join a highly skilled team, publish findings to diverse audiences, and contribute to externally funded proposals while occasionally conducting field data collection in NSW forests.

Qualifications

• Post-graduate degree with extensive applied experience in data and statistics (PhD preferred).
• Experience applying AI and statistical workflows to environmental data.
• Experience with hyperspectral, multispectral and LiDAR data (any two).
• Strong programming and modelling skills (Python preferred; R or C++). ENVI and data visualization tools such as ggplot/Tableau helpful.
• Experience with 3D point cloud software (e.g. LAStools, CloudCompare).
• Experience handling very large datasets using cloud computing, remote servers and Linux.
• A current NSW driver licence.

Responsibilities

• Collates, validates, analyses and models spatial data using AI and statistical workflows to produce spatial products and reports.
• Develops machine learning, deep learning and statistical techniques for hyperspectral, multispectral and LiDAR datasets.
• Assembles and curates analysis-ready data products for current and upcoming research projects.
• Publish and present findings to scientific, government and industry audiences; contribute to research proposals.
• Collaborate across government and academia; occasional fieldwork in NSW forests.
