Job summary

NSW Health Pathology’s Genetics Laboratory at Randwick is seeking a Senior Medical Laboratory Scientist IC of Section to lead the Molecular Genetics team. You will oversee staff workflow, training, and quality management while delivering high-quality diagnostic services.

The role focuses on genomic testing, staff supervision, assay development, and laboratory operations, with a strong emphasis on compliance and continual process improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree or higher in Science/Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution.
• Demonstrated recent experience in staff management, assay validation and implementation in a diagnostic genetic laboratory.
• Strong communication skills with customers, patients and staff, including report writing and data analysis.
• Understanding of accreditation frameworks, standards and quality systems.
• Managerial experience in laboratory operations, administration and budgeting.
• Advanced knowledge of Pathology LIS and supervision of quality management systems.
• Extensive knowledge of laboratory operations and analytical equipment in a pathology setting.

Responsibilities

• Deliver a range of operational laboratory activities including coordination of scientific and technical training.
• Lead ongoing review, development and quality management of laboratory practices to ensure compliance.
• Coordinate staff workflow, training, competency assessments and workforce planning.
