Job summary

Western Sydney Local Health District is seeking a Lead Genomic Epidemiologist to translate pathogen genomics into public health action within NSW Health. You will lead WGS evaluation, surveillance enhancements and statewide education across CIDM-PH, HPNSW and the NSW network.

You will collaborate with epidemiologists, microbiologists and clinicians, building capability and advising senior decision-makers to strengthen infectious disease surveillance and outbreak response.

Qualifications

• Postgraduate qualifications in public health or epidemiology or equivalent.
• Extensive experience in public health including surveillance, prevention and control.
• High-level technical expertise in epidemiological methods and their application to public health practice.
• Highly computer literate with SAS, EPIINFO and Access or similar.
• Ability to prepare and analyse data and epidemiological reports using appropriate statistical methods.

Responsibilities

• Lead evaluation and translation of whole genome sequencing for public health practice.
• Identify barriers and enablers to implementing pathogen WGS and genomic surveillance.
• Lead research activities including study design, ethical approvals, data analysis and publication.
• Build genomic surveillance capability through statewide education, training and engagement.
• Provide expert advice to integrate genomic data into public health surveillance systems.
