Job summary

Soldier On seeks a General Practitioner for the ACT Health Centre to support occupational medicine recruitment for the Australian Defence Force. The role is 0.2 FTE with day shifts, Monday to Friday, in Canberra, offering a collaborative multidisciplinary environment and hospital/defence health integration.

You will deliver primary care to Defence personnel, perform fitness-for-duty assessments, and support pre/post-deployment care, with CPD leave and relocation assistance available.

Qualifications

• Unrestricted AHPRA registration as a General Practitioner.
• FRACGP, FACRRM or Vocational Registration preferred.
• Minimum two years’ GP experience in the last five years.
• Current CPR certification HLTAID009.
• Australian citizenship with baseline security clearance.
• Commitment to CPD and patient-centred care.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality primary care to Defence members.
• Occupational Medicine assessments and pre/post-deployment care.
• Support health suitability screening of applicants to join the ADF.
• Provide written recommendations to Defence Force Recruiting Centre (DFRC) practitioners regarding applicants’ health suitability.
• Make decisions regarding the health suitability of applicants to join the ADF.
• Case reviews and required reporting (ministerial complaints and audits).
• Work in a multidisciplinary clinical team.

About ACT Health Centre

Home to the Department of Defence Headquarters, Airforce Headquarters and Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) which is a tri-service military academy. The Health Centre opened mid-2022 and is a large facility. It services approximately 7000 military personnel, including trainee officers from both ADFA and Royal Military College. There is a 24-bed low dependency ward whichoperates24/7. Services provided include primary medical, aviation & underwater medical, nursing, dental, mental health,pharmaceuticaland physiotherapy. Defence Force Recruitment for medical officers is in addition to health centre roles. Standard hours of operation aregenerally 0800-1600Monday to Friday (depending on role requirements and specific craft groupsrequiredfor weekend and on-call shifts).

This role is primarily Monday to Friday (day shift) within a multidisciplinary healthcare team. After-hours,weekendand on-call shifts may be required depending on role requirements and base location.

Whatyou’lldo

• Deliver high-quality primary care to Defence members
• OccupationalMedicineenvironment, conductingfitness-for-duty assessments and pre/post-deployment care,in addition toinjury management, chronic disease management andpreventative health
• Support the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) DFR in the screening and assessment of the health suitability of applicants to join the Australian Defence Force (ADF)
• Provide clear verbal and written advice and recommendations to Defence Force Recruiting Centre (DFRC) medical practitionersregardingapplicants’ health suitability
• Make decisionsregardingthe health suitability of applicants to join the ADF
• Undertake case reviews and prepare findings in the required written format, including responses to requests such as ministerial complaints and internal audits
• Work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary clinical environmentwhere patientwellness is paramount

What you bring
