Job summary

Serco invites applications for a Defence Force Recruiting Medical Officer at ACT Health Centre, Canberra. This 0.2 FTE civilian GP role focuses on occupational medicine, fitness-for-duty assessments, and comprehensive primary care within a multidisciplinary team.

The position offers a predictable day schedule, CPD leave, and the chance to support Defence recruitment without wearing the uniform. On-site parking and uniform provision are included, with wellbeing resources available.

Qualifications

• Unrestricted AHPRA registration as a General Practitioner.
• FRACGP, FACRRM or Vocational Registration.
• Minimum 2 years GP experience in last 5 years.
• Current CPR certification (HLTAID009).
• Australian Citizenship required (Baseline Security Clearance).
• Commitment to CPD and ethical, patient‑centred care.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality primary care to Defence members.
• Occupational Medicine environment, conducting fitness-for-duty assessments and pre/post-deployment care, in addition to injury management, chronic disease management and preventative health.
• Support the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) DFR in the screening and assessment of the health suitability of applicants to join the Australian Defence Force (ADF).
• Provide clear verbal and written advice and recommendations to Defence Force Recruiting Centre (DFRC) medical practitioners regarding applicants’ health suitability.
• Make decisions regarding the health suitability of applicants to join the ADF.
• Undertake case reviews and prepare findings in the required written format, including responses to requests such as ministerial complaints and internal audits.
• Work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary clinical environment where patient wellness is paramount.
