nbn is seeking a General Manager, Safety and Environment to lead the safety strategy across complex national infrastructure programs. This leadership role partners with executives to embed risk controls, drive performance, and ensure regulatory compliance.

You will oversee contractor safety management, incident investigations, and environmental stewardship, while representing nbn with regulators and industry bodies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field plus experience in safety/environment
  • Proven track record leading safety programs in high-risk environments
  • Strong stakeholder management and regulatory engagement skills

This role will provide strategic leadership across nbn's operational safety and environmental functions, supporting the safe delivery of critical infrastructure programs nationwide.A bit about your roleAs the General Manager, Safety and Environment, you will lead nbn's operational safety strategy and environmental oversight across complex, high-risk construction, field and operational activities undertaken by both nbn employees and delivery partners. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring critical risks are identified, understood and effectively managed throughout the planning, mobilisation and delivery of work, helping to create safer outcomes for our people, partners and communities.Working closely with operational leaders across the business, you will drive the consistent application of critical risk controls, strengthen safety leadership capability and foster a culture where safety and environmental stewardship are embedded in everyday decision-making. You will oversee operational safety and environmental performance, critical incident investigations, contractor safety management, assurance activities and organisational learning, using insights and frontline engagement to continuously improve risk management and operational outcomes. As a trusted adviser to senior leaders, you will also represent nbn with regulators, industry bodies and external stakeholders on matters relating to operational safety and environmental performance.A bit about youYou are an experienced and collaborative leader with a strong track record in operational safety, construction safety, environmental management or a related discipline within complex, highly regulated and high-risk environments. You have successfully led geographically dispersed teams and bring deep expertise in managing critical risks, contractor and supplier safety performance, assurance programs and large-scale operational activities.You are known for your ability to build trusted relationships, influence at Executive level and bring people together around shared priorities. With a thoughtful and pragmatic approach, you can navigate complexity, identify systemic risks and translate insights into meaningful actions that improve safety and environmental outcomes.
