The opportunity:

We are seeking a senior compliance leader to join Bupa in a strategic leadership role as General Manager APAC, Compliance. This senior position plays a pivotal role within the APAC Compliance and Conduct Risk team, responsible for leading regulatory change and compliance management across the APAC region. In addition, the role provides oversight, advice and challenge through a portfolio of monitoring and assurance activities to ensure we maintain compliance with relevant regulatory obligations and internal policies.

This an exciting opportunity to join a growing team and lead the embedment of a new Line 2 compliance function in a diverse business that bridges financial services and healthcare.

This position is offered as permanent, full-time and may be based at our Melbourne or Sydney offices with flexible, hybrid work arrangements available.

You’ll be responsible for:

Compliance Management - Oversee the development and maintenance of compliance frameworks, policies, and systems to ensure effective compliance management. Provide expert guidance and assurance to obligation owners, supporting the implementation and ongoing monitoring of robust compliance plans.

Regulatory Change & Implementation - Lead the regulatory change function, driving the identification, assessment, and implementation of new requirements across the business. Ensure effective change management, compliance alignment, and oversight of obligation management processes.

Monitoring & Assurance - Lead the monitoring and assurance activity to assess compliance with regulatory and internal requirements. Provide independent oversight, control testing, and thematic reviews to identify emerging risks, evaluate control effectiveness, and recommend enhancements.

Reporting - Support the preparation of accurate, insightful compliance reports for management, executive, and board audiences Provide constructive challenge, advice and insights on compliance management across the organisation.

What we’re looking for:

We’re seeking someone with roughly 10 years of professional experience, and exposure to Line 1 and/or Line 2 compliance roles within APRA-regulated entities or other highly regulated environments. You’ll be an excellent communicator and understand both the technical and human elements of compliance, working collaboratively with the business to ensure our approach to compliance delivers great results for customers.

In addition to this, you’ll have:

  • tertiary qualifications in business, law, or compliance (professional compliance accreditation highly regarded) or equivalent professional experience
  • deep practical and technical expertise in compliance including obligation management, compliance plans, regulatory change
  • knowledge of APRA and broader commercial regulatory environments
  • the ability to communicate clearly, succinctly and with impact to senior stakeholders, and
  • leadership attributes with experience managing and developing high-performing teams.
