Job summary

Mastery Co is seeking a Leading Hand Carpenter to step into a full-time, entry‑level leadership role in Newcastle, working across alterations and additions projects valued between $500,000–$1,000,000.

This is more than a carpentry role — it's a genuine mentoring pathway toward your Supervisor's Licence, with hands-on experience you won't find anywhere else in the industry.

Qualifications

• Ambitious and growth‑minded candidate with a drive toward site supervision.
• Willing to commence or be studying Cert IV in Building and Construction; 2–4 years' site carpenter experience acceptable.
• Strong communication skills and ability to liaise with subcontractors and director.

Responsibilities

• Work full-time on the tools as Leading Carpenter, driving day-to-day construction.
• Supervise and coordinate subcontractors with support from the Director to keep projects on schedule.
• Grow into ownership of project schedules and site progress with mentorship from the Director.

As a Design + Construct firm, we produce all the plans, documentation, 3D models, and approvals for our projects in-house. You'll work directly from detailed 3D models and cutting lists, giving you rare visibility into the accuracy, efficiency, and "back of house" systems that most tradespeople never get to see. It's a genuine opportunity to understand both sides of a project — the build, and the design and organisation behind it.

You'll work directly from detailed 3D models and cutting lists, giving you rare visibility into the accuracy, efficiency, and "back of house" systems that most tradespeople never get to see. It's a genuine opportunity to understand both sides of a project — the build, and the design and organisation behind it.

What You'll Be Doing

• Working full-time on the tools as Leading Carpenter, driving day-to-day construction
• Supervising and coordinating subcontractors, with close support from our Director to help keep projects tracking to schedule
• Growing into ownership of project schedules and site progress, with Mitch alongside you every step of the way
• Working directly from 3D models and cutting lists to execute carpentry and building elements with precision
• Being mentored directly by our Director, Mitch — a licensed builder and qualified Building Designer
• Gaining documented supervisory experience that can be referenced for your future Supervisor's Licence application

About You

• Ambitious, with a genuine drive to grow toward site supervision
• Either commencing or currently studying a Cert IV in Building and Construction, or with a minimum of 2–4 years' site experience as a carpenter
• Willing to take on responsibility onsite, with close, hands-on support from our Director Mitch every step of the way
• A great communicator who can liaise confidently with subcontractors, our team, and our Director
• A team player who takes pride in contributing to well-run, well-organised projects
• Interested in construction documentation, 3D modelling, and how a project is organised behind the scenes
• Reliable, schedule-driven, and takes pride in accurate, efficient work

For the right candidate, we understand an immediate start isn't always possible and are happy to be flexible.

What We Offer

• $95,000 – $110,000 per annum — reflecting this as an entry point into a leadership/site supervision role.
