Job summary

MPE Custom Switchboards Pty Ltd in Sydney is seeking a Full-time Trade Assistant to support the mechanical assembly and wiring of custom electrical switchboards. You will work closely with Electrical Fitters and tradespeople in a hands-on, workshop setting and contribute to fast-paced manufacturing projects.

You will read basic layout drawings, prepare materials, install components, and perform checks to ensure quality and safety.

Qualifications

• Prior experience as an Electrical TA, production assembler, or in a similar sheet metal/electrical manufacturing environment.
• Ability to read and interpret basic layout drawings.
• Strong attention to detail and a proactive attitude.
• Physically capable to handle workshop duties.
• Punctual, reliable and bring a positive attitude to the workshop.
• Able to follow instructions clearly.

Responsibilities

• Assist in assembling, wiring, and fitting-off electrical switchboards and distribution boards.
• Prepare materials, components, and tools required for switchboard building projects.
• Install components including breakers, relays, busbars, cabling systems, and protection devices.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and layout drawings.
• Complete panel layout and internal wiring in line with design documentation.
• Perform functional and operational checks.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organised work environment.
• Assist in process improvements and standardisation.

Working alongside a team of qualified Electrical Fitters and Tradespeople, you will assist in the mechanical assembly and wiring of custom electrical switchboards. This is a hands-on, workshop-based role perfect for someone with strong mechanical aptitude, high attention to detail, and a desire to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key responsibilities

Assist in assembling, wiring, and fitting-off electrical switchboards and distribution boards

Prepare materials, components, and tools required for switchboard building projects

Install components including breakers, relays, busbars, cabling systems, and protection devices

About you
