About the role

Pete & Son's Vehicle Transport is seeking a motivated, organised and hands-on Transport Operations Manager to help oversee the day-to-day operations of our busy vehicle transport and storage business.

This is a varied position suited to someone who enjoys taking responsibility, managing people, solving problems and keeping operations running smoothly.

Reporting to senior management, you will be responsible for coordinating transport bookings, allocating work to drivers, supervising yard staff, managing customer enquiries and ensuring daily operations are carried out safely and efficiently.

The position is predominantly office-based, with some involvement in overseeing and assisting with yard operations.

We are looking for someone who can take initiative, think on their feet and confidently manage the challenges of a fast-paced transport environment.

Key responsibilities

Manage daily vehicle transport bookings, collections and deliveries.

Allocate jobs to drivers, coordinate workloads and monitor transport schedules.

Answer incoming phone calls, respond to emails and manage customer enquiries.

Act as a key point of contact for dealerships, customers and transport partners.

Investigate and resolve operational issues, delays, complaints and delivery discrepancies.

Assist with locating missing vehicles, keys and resolving vehicle-related issues.

Coordinate and supervise drivers and yard staff, ensuring daily tasks are completed efficiently.

Oversee yard operations, vehicle movements, storage capacity and general organisation.

Monitor yard safety, identify potential hazards and ensure workplace safety procedures are followed.

Maintain accurate records of bookings, vehicle movements and deliveries.

Assist with hands-on yard operations when required.

Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, procedures and daily workflows.

Escalate significant operational and staffing matters to senior management when required.

About you

We are looking for a confident, reliable and highly organised individual who can manage multiple responsibilities and take ownership of their work.

The ideal candidate will have:

Previous experience in transport, logistics, operations management or a similar role (preferred but not essential).

Strong leadership skills and the confidence to supervise drivers and yard staff.

Excellent organisational, time management and problem‑solving abilities.

Strong communication skills and the professional approach to customer service.

The ability to remain calm, focused and productive in a busy environment.

A firm but fair approach to managing people.

Strong computer skills and the ability to manage emails, bookings and administrative tasks.

The initiative to identify issues, make decisions within their responsibilities and implement solutions.

A proactive, hands‑on attitude and willingness to assist wherever required.

Experience in vehicle transport or automotive logistics will be highly regarded, but is not essential.

We welcome applicants from other industries who demonstrate strong leadership, organisational and problem‑solving skills.

Full training will be provided on our business systems, procedures and daily operations.

Based in Wingfield, we work closely with major automotive dealerships, transport companies and industry partners, providing reliable and efficient vehicle transport and storage solutions.

We pride ourselves on delivering excellent customer service, maintaining strong client relationships and operating a professional, well‑organised business.

$45.00 per hour + superannuation

38 ordinary hours per week, plus a minimum of 2 hours guaranteed overtime

Overtime paid at 1.5x ($67.50 per hour)

Minimum 40-hour working week, with additional overtime as required.

Annualised minimum earnings of approximately $95,940 + superannuation, based on 52 paid weeks.

Monday to Friday, with set working hours to be confirmed.

Very occasional Saturday work.

No public holiday work required.
