Job summary

Ausnew Support Services in New South Wales is seeking a dedicated care assistant to provide compassionate in-home support to clients, including personal care, mobility assistance, and participation in care planning. The role is permanent and full-time, with a focus on maintaining client independence.

You will follow therapy plans, assist with dementia-related interventions and behavioural support, observe patient conditions, and report changes promptly.

Qualifications

• Must hold AQF Certificate III in Individual Support (Aged Care/Disability) or higher.
• Evidence of 120 hours vocational placement if non-nursing.
• 12 months direct care experience in last five years.
• Current First Aid and CPR certifications.
• Competency in following care plans and maintaining medical records.

Responsibilities

• Assist with personal care (showering, dressing, feeding).
• Assist with mobility and communication needs.
• Contribute to care planning for individuals.
• Follow therapy plans (dementia interventions, behavioural support).
• Observe and report changes in patient condition; document concerns.
• Assist with rehabilitation exercises and basic treatment; support therapists.

THE ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assisting patients with their personal care needs such as showering, dressing and eating
• Assisting patients with their mobility and communication needs
• Participating in planning the care of individuals
• Following therapy plans such as interventions to assist those with dementia and behavioural problems
• Observing and reporting changes in patients' condition, and reporting complaints about care
• Assisting with rehabilitation exercises, basic treatment and delivering medications
• Providing direct support and assistance to therapists

MANDATORY SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCES

• Qualifications: A minimum of an AQF Certificate III in Individual Support (Aged Care/Disability) or a higher, relevant vocational qualification is required.
• Qualifications must include evidence of a vocational placement/practical training of at least 120 hours, if non-nursing related.
• Experience: A minimum of 12 months of full-time (or equivalent part-time) paid work experience in a relevant direct care role, completed within the last five years, is essential.
• Certifications & Skills: Must hold current certifications in First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
• Must have demonstrated competency in following care plans and maintaining medical records.
• General: A valid Australian Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle is required.

SALARY & BENEFITS (Nominated Salary Range)

Nominated Annual Salary Range: $77,000 – $85,000 per annum

• Statutory Superannuation (currently 12%) and generous penalty rates for weekend and public holiday shifts.
