Job summary

Third Rail Café is seeking a skilled, experienced Chef to join our kitchen team in Sydney on a full-time basis. We operate a café with a commercial kitchen, table service and licensed alcohol service, delivering a quality dining experience.

The role focuses on planning, preparing and supervising breakfast, brunch and contemporary café-style meals in a busy kitchen environment. You will contribute to menu development, maintain high standards of food safety, and lead junior staff when required.

Qualifications

• Commercial cookery qualifications or equivalent experience.
• Experience as a Chef in a commercial kitchen.
• Knowledge of food safety and hygiene requirements.
• Ability to work in a busy kitchen environment.
• Strong organisational and time-management skills.
• Flexibility to work weekends and public holidays.
• Good communication and teamwork.
• Experience preparing breakfast, brunch and contemporary café-style meals.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop and prepare a variety of breakfast, brunch and lunch dishes.
• Prepare and cook meals to a consistently high standard.
• Assist with menu planning, seasonal menu changes and the introduction of new dishes.
• Monitor food quality, presentation, portion control and consistency.
• Manage kitchen stock, ingredient ordering and inventory control.
• Monitor food costs, wastage and kitchen efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements.
• Maintain cleanliness and organisation of kitchen facilities and equipment.
• Coordinate kitchen operations during busy service periods.
• Train and supervise junior kitchen staff where required.
