Job summary

Aroma Bakery and Cafe in Brisbane is seeking an experienced full-time Baker skilled in daily bakery production, pastry and cake work. You will produce breads, pastries and custom celebration cakes for the cafe and events.

The role requires a Certificate III/IV in Baking or Patisserie (or higher), at least 1 year of commercial baking experience, strong decorating skills, and the ability to work early mornings, weekends and rotating rosters. Visa sponsorship is available for the right candidate.

Qualifications

• Certificate III/IV in Baking or Patisserie, or higher qualification in culinary arts or patisserie.
• At least 1 year of experience as Baker, Pastry Chef or Pastrycook in a commercial bakery, patisserie or hotel kitchen.
• Strong practical skills in pastry, cake production and decorating.
• Sound knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices.
• Ability to work early mornings, weekends and a rotating roster.
• Experience with fondant work and custom cake design.
• Kitchen supervision or team leadership experience.
• Experience in customer-facing bakery or cafe settings.

Responsibilities

• Check the quality of raw materials and weigh ingredients for each production run.
• Prepare and mix doughs, batters, cake mixes, pastry and fillings.
• Mould, shape and portion dough and pastry into breads, rolls, cakes, tarts and other bakery products.
• Load ovens, control oven temperatures and baking times.
• Glaze, ice and decorate cakes and pastries using icing, cream, chocolate, fondant and sugar paste.
• Design and produce custom and celebration cakes to customer orders.
• Price, package and present products for the cafe display.
• Plan daily production so the cafe is fully stocked from opening.
• Operate and clean mixers, sheeters, provers and other bakery equipment.
• Maintain food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety standards.
• Help develop recipes and new products for the menu.
• Supervise and train junior bakers and kitchen staff.
