Job description

Our commitment to Diversity and Inclusion

Allume Energy is an endorsed employer for women by WORK180, and a full list of our benefits and policies can be found HERE.

We believe diverse perspectives are the key to unlocking greater outcomes and encourage applications from people of all ages, nationalities, abilities, and cultures. We champion equal opportunities for all employees.

If you have any special requests or accessibility requirements throughout the recruitment process, please advise us at the time of application (via email) and we will adjust to meet your needs.

Company background

At Allume Energy, we believe clean energy should be accessible to everyone - no matter where they live. We’re a Melbourne based technology company focused on unlocking solar access for apartments and multi-tenanted buildings. Our world-first hardware and software product, SolShare, is a powerful solution to an emerging energy equity issue and reducing global carbon emissions.

Built here in Melbourne, SolShare has connected over 12,000 apartments to rooftop solar across Australia, the UK and the US. We are doubling our installation base each year and have ambition to connect over 100,000 apartments to solar by 2029. Our dedication to this cause flows through everything that we do, fostering a culture where everyone is committed to making a difference.

What we offer

We are proud to offer the following:

  • Hybrid Work: This role is based in our Melbourne office and follows a hybrid working model. We believe in the power of face-to-face collaboration, so while you’ll have the flexibility to work from home, we look forward to seeing you in the office regularly to connect with the team.

  • Flexibility: Our preference is for this role to be full time, however if you are returning to work or want to focus more time on life outside of work, we would love for you to apply! We understand part-time may look different to everyone, and we look forward to discussing what might suit you best.

  • Leave & Wellbeing: 25 days (5 weeks) of annual leave and a \"Half-Day Friday\" every fortnight where the whole team logs off at lunch.

  • Progressive Parental Leave: 15 weeks paid leave for primary carers and 5 weeks for secondary carers (no minimum tenure required).

  • Wellbeing: Access to an Employee Assistance Program.

  • Options: ESOP (Employee Stock Option Plan) allocation available.

About the Role

Allume’s product spans the mechanical, electrical, electronics, firmware and web software engineering disciplines. We are looking for a capable Full Stack Software Engineer to help build and ship features across our customer-facing applications and APIs that manage our IoT fleet and deliver real-time energy insights to our customers.

You will own features end-to-end across NestJS backends and Vue.js frontends: clarifying requirements, making sound implementation decisions within the team's architecture, writing well-tested code, and seeing work through to release. You will work closely with more senior engineers for direction on larger design choices, while operating with a high degree of independence on the features you own.

Candidates should be excited by shipping real product in a multi-discipline hardware + software company, taking pride in clean tested code, contributing thoughtfully in design and code review, and using modern AI developer tooling productively within the team's standards.

Roles and Responsibilities

This position provides an opportunity within Allume to be a strong delivery contributor within a small but dedicated software team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Design, develop, test and maintain back-end services, APIs and Vue.js frontend features end-to-end, from clarified requirements through to production-ready releases.

  • Own the delivery of features: estimate your work, communicate progress and dependencies, surface trade-offs early, and follow through to release.

  • Make sound technical implementation decisions within the team's architecture; elevate larger design or cross-cutting questions with a clear recommendation.

  • Write automated unit and relevant integration/UI tests while upholding the team's coding, security and maintainability standards in everything you ship.

  • Participate actively in design discussions and code reviews, giving and receiving constructive feedback that raises the quality of what we ship.

  • Proactively identify bugs, reliability gaps or improvements in the areas you work on and propose practical fixes.

  • Use AI developer tooling productively within team workflows and quality/security guardrails, treating AI output with the same review and testing bar as hand-written code.

  • Collaborate across disciplines firmware, electronics, product and commercial as needed to deliver the features you own.

  • Participate in the team's shared on-call roster, rotated across the team, with clear runbooks and backup support available when you are on call.

Experience:

  • Professional software engineering experience, with meaningful full stack delivery (or strong depth on one side of the stack and proven ability to work across both).

  • Experience delivering features in Node.js / NestJS and Vue.js (or closely equivalent frameworks).

  • Experience with RESTful APIs.

  • Experience with SQL databases, including schema design for features you own.

  • Experience with automated testing using tools such as Jest and Cypress.

  • Comfortable estimating your own work, managing delivery of features independently, and communicating progress clearly.

Nice to have

  • Experience with AWS cloud infrastructure.

  • Exposure to IoT, real-time data, or energy/cleantech domains

  • Hands-on experience using AI coding assistants in day-to-day development

  • Passion for clean tech / clean energy

Right to work

To be considered for this role, you must have valid, unrestricted work rights in Australia. Please note that we are unable to provide visa sponsorship at this time.

Applications close Friday 11 September, and we endeavour to respond to your application within 2 weeks of submission to advise you of the outcome. We expect that the full recruitment process will take 4-6 weeks however this is subject to change.

For shortlisted candidates, our process consists of three key stages:

  • Round 1: Online Interview (15 mins) – A brief online interview with the hiring manager and office manager to discuss your experience, your motivations, and why you’re excited about joining Allume Energy.

  • Round 2: Technical Deep Dive (1 hour) – An in-person interview with the hiring manager and a team member to explore your technical expertise and how you tackle role-specific challenges.

  • Round 3: Values & Team Alignment (1 hour) – A final session with the hiring manager and broader team members. This is an opportunity to discuss our company values and ensure a mutual cultural alignment for long-term success
