Job summary

The Recruitment Hive Pty Ltd is seeking a Full Stack Java Developer for a 19+12 month contract, located in Australia with flexible work arrangements. The role focuses on Java as the primary language, building RESTful APIs and microservices, and operating in cloud environments (AWS).

You will design, develop, test, and maintain scalable web applications, leverage Docker and Kubernetes, and implement infrastructure as code with Terraform/CloudFormation.

Qualifications

• Proven Java development experience with modern frameworks.
• Experience designing RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Exposure to cloud environments (AWS preferred).
• Familiarity with containers, IaC, and CI/CD practices.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test and maintain high-quality software with Java as the primary language.
• Develop and support web apps, RESTful APIs, microservices and cloud services across stacks.
• Build and operate in cloud environments, preferably AWS; use Docker/Kubernetes.
• Implement infrastructure as code and automation (Terraform, Pulumi, CloudFormation).
• Follow secure coding practices and support vulnerability remediation.
• Work in Linux-based environments and modern cloud technologies.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of platforms and engineering practices.

Our client, Australia's national science agency and a leading multidisciplinary research organisation, requires the services of a Full Stack Java Developer for a 19 + 12-month contract.

Duties of the Full Stack Java Developer:

• Design, develop, test and maintain high-quality software- Java as the primary development language.
• Develop and support web applications, RESTful APIs, microservices and cloud-based services across the application and technology stack.
• Develop and support scalable and reliable applications in cloud environments, preferably AWS.
• Containers and infrastructure automation.
• Automated testing, code review, Git, CI/CD and version control.
• Relational and/or NoSQL databases and SQL in developing and supporting data driven applications.
• Apply secure software development practices, including authentication, authorisation and secure coding, and contribute to security and vulnerability remediation.
• Work in Linux based environments and across modern application and cloud technologies.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of ALA platforms, products and engineering practices.

Skills and Experience - Full Stack Java Developer:

• Strong hands‑on software development experience, with Java as a primary development language.
• Experience with modern Java frameworks and technologies, such as Spring Boot, Hibernate, Grails or equivalent.
• Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs, web applications and/or microservices.
• Experience developing and supporting applications in cloud environments, preferably AWS.
• Experience with containerisation and orchestration technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes or equivalent.
• Experience with infrastructure as code and automation, such as Terraform, CloudFormation, Pulumi or equivalent.
• Experience working with relational and/or NoSQL databases.
• Understanding of application and cloud security principles, including identity and access management, secrets, encryption, TLS/SSL and modern authentication standards.
• Experience with software testing, code reviews, version control and CI/CD practices
