Job summary

Our Town Forklift Service Pty Ltd in Gateshead, NSW is seeking a skilled Forklift Mechanic to join our team on a full-time basis. You will perform mechanical repairs, routine maintenance and diagnostics on a range of forklift models to keep operations running safely and efficiently.

Candidates should have a recognised trade qualification or proven hands-on forklift experience, strong hydraulic, engine and electrical knowledge, and a valid driver's licence with willingness to travel to client

Qualifications

• Trade qualification in mechanical engineering or automotive mechanics, or equivalent forklift servicing experience.
• Proven forklift/telehandler experience.
• Knowledge of hydraulic, engine and electrical systems.
• Ability to read manuals and service documentation.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
• Willingness to travel to client sites and hold a valid driver's licence.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults on forklifts using diagnostic tools.
• Carry out routine maintenance including oil, filters, belts and fluids.
• Repair or replace engines, transmissions, hydraulics, brakes and tyres.
• Conduct pre-operation and safety inspections per industry standards.
• Maintain accurate service records for all work.
• Advise clients on repair costs and required parts.
• Keep up to date with new forklift models and repair techniques.
• Communicate effectively with clients throughout the service.

About the role

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Forklift Mechanic to join our team at our Gateshead, NSW location on a full-time basis. This position is central to our business operations, ensuring that all forklift equipment is maintained to the highest standards and operates safely and efficiently. As a Forklift Mechanic, you will play a vital role in supporting our clients' productivity and safety by performing comprehensive mechanical repairs, maintenance and diagnostics on a variety of forklift models and makes. Your expertise will directly contribute to reducing downtime and extending the lifespan of equipment across our client base.

Key responsibilities

Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults in forklifts using appropriate testing equipment and troubleshooting techniques

Perform routine maintenance services including oil changes, filter replacements, belt adjustments and fluid top-ups

Repair and replace worn or damaged components such as engines, transmissions, hydraulics, brakes and tyres

Conduct pre-operation and safety inspections in accordance with industry standards and regulations

Maintain detailed service records and documentation for all work completed on vehicles

Assist in the identification of parts and materials required for repairs and maintenance

Ensure all work is completed in a timely manner while adhering to safety protocols

Communicate effectively with clients regarding repair status, costs and recommendations

Keep up to date with new forklift models, technologies and repair techniques

What we're looking for

Recognised trade qualification in mechanical engineering or automotive mechanics, or equivalent practical experience in forklift or materials handling equipment servicing

Proven experience as a mechanic working on forklifts, telehandlers or similar industrial equipment

Sound knowledge of hydraulic systems, engines and electrical components

Proficiency in using mechanical tools and diagnostic equipment

Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints and service documentation

Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

Excellent communication and customer service abilities

A valid driver's licence and willingness to travel to client sites for on-site repairs

Commitment to workplace health and safety practices

Physical fitness to perform manual and repetitive tasks

Desirable: Experience with LPG or diesel-powered equipment and knowledge of forklift certification requirements
