Job summary

Office of the NSW Crime Commission in Sydney is seeking a Forensic Accountant to drive financial investigations and advise on asset confiscation. You will work with Intelligence Analysts and partner agencies to disrupt serious crime, including terrorism, within NSW.

The role requires a relevant degree and professional accounting membership; security clearances are mandatory for appointment. Salary starts from $133,348 to $146,945 per annum, with progression and career development opportunities.

About the role:

The NSW Crime Commission's purpose is to disrupt, reduce and prevent the incidence of organised and other serious crime in New South Wales. The Commission is structured into functional Divisions consisting of operational and support teams.

The function of conducting criminal investigations is assigned to the Commission’s Operations Division. Investigations are typically conducted pursuant to a Management Committee reference to investigate or approval to work in cooperation with a joint task force comprising one or more of the Commission’s partner agencies. The Operations Division is also responsible for the Commission’s Strategic Intelligence capability, the provision of specialist investigative support services and the provision of advice and recommendations to Government in relation to minimising the impact of serious and organised crime on the NSW community.

The Forensic Accountant forms an integral part of the Commission's Financial Investigations team. Working closely with Intelligence Analysts, the Forensic Accountant is responsible for conducting concurrent financial investigations and providing specialist advice to support financial investigations in order to pursue the confiscation of criminal assets. You will play a key role in driving financial investigations through the application of a range of covert and overt investigative methods, investigative interviews and the interrogation of large and complex datasets. You will also be relied upon to make sound recommendations regarding the use of the Commission's coercive and non-coercive information gathering powers.

Security vetting:

You must be an Australian citizen to be eligible to work at the NSW Crime Commission.

The recommended candidates must be willing to participate in and secure appropriate security clearances by providing comprehensive details about their personal and financial interests and other relevant information about themselves, their families and their associates.

The Crime Commission Regulation 2022 under the Crime Commission Act 2012 stipulates that it is a condition of employment at the Commission that a member of staff obtain and maintain:

• a security clearance issued by the Commissioner, and
• a security clearance issued by the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency that the Commissioner determines is necessary for the position.
