Job summary

Natural Floorcoverings Australia is seeking a Floor Finisher / Carpet Layer to measure, prepare, cut, lay and finish woven floorcoverings to a high standard. The role involves working with specialist woven carpet products and traditional installation methods in clients' homes and commercial premises.

You will have Certificate III in Flooring Technology (or equivalent) or 3+ years of hands-on experience, with pattern matching, grain alignment and careful finishing.

• Strong understanding of pattern matching, grain alignment and stretching requirements.

Responsibilities

• Attend residential and commercial project sites to measure areas and calculate floorcovering requirements.
• Review plans and determine efficient cutting layouts, considering weave direction, grain alignment and pattern matching.
• Prepare subfloors and installation areas, including removal of existing floorcoverings, trims and doors where required.
• Select, cut and install underlay products per site requirements and manufacturer recommendations.
• Install woven broadloom carpet and other floorcoverings using stretched, pinned, dual-bond and other recognised methods.
• Cut, join, stretch and fit floorcoverings with correct pattern matching and finish quality.
• Complete detail work including trimming, edge finishing, transitions and installation of edge trims.
• Ensure joins are discreet and finished to a high standard.
• Complete final inspections, vacuuming and site clean-up, removing all waste materials.
• Communicate professionally with clients and provide basic product care information.

Job description

As a Floor Finisher / Carpet Layer, you will be responsible for measuring, preparing, cutting, laying and finishing woven floorcoverings to an exceptional standard. The successful applicant will work with specialist woven carpet products using conventional stretched and pinned methods, dual-bond systems and other installation techniques specific to woven materials. This is a hands-on role requiring strong technical skills, attention to detail and a professional approach when working in clients' homes and commercial premises.

Key responsibilities

Attend residential and commercial project sites to measure areas and calculate floorcovering requirements.

Review plans and determine efficient cutting layouts, taking into account weave direction, grain alignment and pattern matching.

Prepare subfloors and installation areas, including the removal of existing floorcoverings, trims and doors where required.

Select, cut and install appropriate underlay products in accordance with site requirements and manufacturer recommendations.

Install woven broadloom carpet and other floorcoverings using stretched and pinned, dual-bond and other recognised installation methods.

Cut, join, stretch and fit floorcoverings while maintaining correct pattern matching, weave grain alignment and finish quality.

Complete detail work including trimming, edge finishing, tucking, transitions, doorway treatments and installation of edge trims.

Ensure joins are positioned discreetly and finished to a high standard.

Complete final inspections, vacuuming and site clean-up, removing all waste materials.

Communicate professionally with clients and provide basic product care information where required.

About you

Certificate III in Flooring Technology (or equivalent) preferred, or a minimum of three years relevant practical industry experience in carpet laying/floor finishing installation.

Demonstrated experience as a Floor Finisher, Carpet Layer or Flooring Installer.

Experience working with woven broadloom carpets and floorcovering products.

Sound understanding of pattern matching, grain alignment, joining techniques and stretching requirements of multiple products including Sisal, Wool, Jute and Coir.

Knowledge of natural fibre floorcoverings and their specific installation characteristics and requirements.

Experience installing floorcoverings in residential and commercial environments.

Strong understanding of conventional stretched and pinned installations and dual-bond systems.

High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.

Good verbal communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with clients and colleagues.
