Job summary

Western Freight Management is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Workshop Foreman to lead our workshop team and oversee the day-to-day maintenance of our heavy-vehicle and trailer fleet. You will manage maintenance scheduling, quality checks and safety compliance while keeping the fleet on the road.

Ideally you have extensive heavy-vehicle workshop experience, trade qualifications as a Heavy Vehicle or Diesel Mechanic, and proven leadership abilities in a busy workshop environment.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in a heavy vehicle or fleet workshop environment.
• Experience with Cummins engines, Road Ranger gearboxes and Meritor Differentials is highly regarded.
• HVAIS Examiner Qualifications highly regarded.
• Strong mechanical knowledge and diagnostic skills.
• Previous experience supervising or leading a workshop team.
• Relevant trade qualification as a Heavy Vehicle Mechanic / Diesel Mechanic.
• Strong understanding of preventative maintenance, heavy vehicle and trailer repairs.
• Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
• A practical, hands-on approach and strong attention to detail.
• The ability to prioritise work in a busy workshop environment.
• Good communication and leadership skills.
• A strong commitment to safety and quality.

Responsibilities

• Lead, supervise and support workshop technicians.
• Plan and allocate daily workshop jobs and manage workflow.
• Oversee servicing, repairs, inspections and preventative maintenance of our fleet vehicles and trailers.
• Diagnose and assist with complex mechanical and electrical faults.
• Ensure all work is completed to a high standard and within agreed timeframes.
• Conduct quality checks on completed maintenance items.
• Assist with workshop priorities and parts requirements.
• Liaise with drivers, operations staff and management regarding fleet requirements.
• Ensure workshop records, service histories and job documentation is recorded accurately.
• Ensure compliance with workplace OH&S requirements and relevant heavy vehicle regulations.
