Job description

Fleet & Plant Asset Coordinator (Hands-On)

Civil Construction | Plant, Vehicles & Equipment

About Beltrame Civil

Beltrame Civil is a South Australian civil contractor delivering infrastructure, earthworks, utilities, road construction and development projects across metropolitan and regional areas.

We own and operate a large and diverse fleet of plant, vehicles and heavy construction equipment, ranging from hand and battery-powered tools, small petrol and two-stroke plant, all the way through to excavators from 2t to 40t, on and off highway trucks, loaders, skidsteers, bulldozers, graders, rollers and other heavy construction equipment. Our fleet is made up of Caterpillar, Yanmar, Case, Bomag, Liebherr, Volvo, Scania and Hino.

As a long-standing, stable and highly regarded civil contractor, ongoing growth means we are now looking for a practical, mechanically minded and independently driven person to take ownership of the maintenance, readiness and coordination of our fleet and equipment.

We pride ourselves on maintaining our equipment properly and, wherever practical, carrying out maintenance and repairs in-house.

This role is suited to someone who would share that pride, and takes enjoyment from effective problem solving, working with machinery of all sizes, improving systems and has pride in keeping assets safe, compliant, reliable and ready for work.

The Opportunity

The Fleet & Plant Asset Coordinator is a hands-on role combining mechanical work, preventative maintenance and fleet coordination. It combines both site and workshop-based activities, co-ordinating with the Operations teams to quickly prioritise and respond to scheduled and unscheduled maintenance requirements.

This is far more than a traditional mechanics’ role. You'll be responsible for maintaining and repairing equipment where practical, diagnosing faults, coordinating external repairs and servicing for both scheduled and emergency repairs and maintenance, overseeing fleet readiness and compliance, controlling workshop inventory and maintaining accurate asset records.

This is not a role where you'll work on the same type of machine every day.

One day you might be repairing a small engine, changing out wear parts or welding and fabrication.

The next, you could be responding to pre-start reports by attending site in a supplied vehicle to top up fluids, organising a major repair, attending a breakdown, sourcing parts or preparing equipment for deployment to site.

If you enjoy variety, autonomy and being trusted to take ownership, this role offers the opportunity to become an integral part of a growing civil construction business.

Key Responsibilities

Fleet Maintenance & Repairs

Undertake minor repairs and preventative maintenance on company plant, vehicles and equipment.

Coordinate the response to unscheduled breakdowns, undertaking the repairs or organising for external servicing as required.

Diagnose faults and determine appropriate and efficient repair strategies.

Monitor equipment condition and identify maintenance requirements before failures occur.

Coordinate scheduled maintenance external repair providers.

Maintain accurate service, repair and maintenance records.

Workshop Operations

Perform welding, fabrication and equipment modifications.

Assist with asset presentation.

Maintain an organised, safe and efficient workshop environment.

Manage tool identification, storage and asset control.

Fleet Readiness

Conduct pre-start and return-to-yard inspections.

Ensure vehicles and equipment are operational, safe and presentable.

Identify and rectify defects prior to equipment returning to service.

Assist in fleet mobilisation for upcoming projects.

Source parts, consumables and maintenance supplies.

Manage inventory levels of critical spare parts and workshop consumables.

Coordinate tyre replacement and equipment servicing requirements.

Identify cost‑saving opportunities through effective procurement and maintenance planning.

Compliance & Asset Management

Monitor service intervals and preventative maintenance schedules.

Maintain asset registers and equipment histories.

Track defects, repairs and utilisation trends.

Assist in ensuring fleet compliance with company and legislative requirements.

Provide fleet condition updates and recommendations to management.

Depot & Yard Operations

Assist with loading and unloading equipment and materials when required.

Coordinate fleet movements and equipment availability.

Maintain visibility of fleet status across active projects and depot operations.

About You

We're looking for a practical problem solver with a strong mechanical background and the ability to work independently.

You don't need to be an expert in every type of equipment we operate. What matters most is strong mechanical ability, good fault-finding skills and a willingness to take ownership and find practical solutions.

Experience maintaining plant, vehicles, machinery or equipment

Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills

Knowledge of plant systems, including electrical, mechanical and hydraulic

Experience coordinating repairs, servicing and maintenance activities

A practical and can‑do attitude, with good communication skills

The ability to manage competing priorities and work independently

A current driver's licence

Highly Regarded

Mechanical trade qualification in small engines, heavy vehicles, auto electrical, outdoor power equipment or the like

Experience with civil construction or earthmoving equipment

Small engine, truck and trailer maintenance experience

Experience using maintenance management systems

Why Join Beltrame Civil?
