Job summary

Hunter Water Corporation in Newcastle, NSW is seeking an Assistant Asset Accountant on a fixed-term contract for two years. You will support the fixed asset registers, capital projects governance, and related reporting in our Finance & Business Performance Division.

The role requires tertiary accounting qualifications, experience with fixed assets, and knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards. You will prepare journals, assist with project openings and closures, and contribute to process

Qualifications

• Tertiary accounting/commerce degree or equivalent.
• CPA/CA designation or working towards designation.
• Experience managing fixed asset registers.
• Understanding of Australian Accounting Standards and policies.

Responsibilities

• Assist with management of Hunter Water's fixed asset registers, ensuring compliance with internal policies and procedures.
• Preparation of month-end journals, adjustments, reconciliations and reporting of fixed asset information.
• Support the administrative function of capital projects including opening, closing and amending projects.
• Support review of capital project work-in-progress and timely addition of capital assets.
• Identify improvements and efficiency gains in fixed asset processes.
• Engage with business areas to ensure efficient fixed asset practices.
• Assist with internal and external reporting for fixed assets.
• Maintain fixed asset policies, procedures and work instructions.
• Provide guidance to stakeholders and finance team members on fixed asset processes.
