Job summary

MIGAS Apprentices and Trainees – Strathfield QLD, in partnership with Stanmore, offers a four-year Fixed and Mobile Plant Mechanic Apprenticeship at South Walker Creek Mine near Nebo. Earn MEM31419 Certificate III in Engineering while gaining hands-on experience on large mobile mining equipment.

The first year features a 4 days on (Mon-Thu) / 3 days off Day Shift roster with travel to Nebo camp as needed (DIDO).

Qualifications

• Must have a genuine passion for mechanical work and safety.
• Willingness to learn and actively seek new opportunities.
• Strong literacy and numeracy skills.
• Completion of Year 12 with Mathematics.
• Residence in Nebo, Moranbah or Bowen Basin region.
• Pre-employment medical, health screening and safety inductions.
• Interest in automotive/engineering work is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain, diagnose and repair heavy mobile mining equipment and machinery.
• Learn on the job during the four‑year apprenticeship.
• Drive in/drive out to Nebo camp as required.

• Completion of, or near completion of, an automotive or engineering pre-apprenticeship (desirable)
• The ability to pass a Pre-Employment Medical, including a Coal Mine Workers' Health Scheme, Standard 11 Safety Induction, Drug and Alcohol Screening, and Police Check
• Residence in Nebo, Moranbah or the Bowen Basin region
