Job summary

InfraBuild Reinforcing in Victoria seeks a skilled mechanical fitter to maintain, repair and optimise heavy industrial equipment across steel processing plants. You will fault-find, service, overhaul and install equipment in both workshop and on-site environments.

The role requires a Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade with at least 5 years’ experience, strong MIG welding, hydraulics, valves and pumps, and the ability to read drawings.

Qualifications

• Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in mechanical fitting within steel, FMCG, heavy industry, or industrial engineering.
• Strong expertise with MIG welding, valves, pumps, actuators, hydraulics, and heavy plant equipment.
• Proven ability to diagnose faults, conduct overhauls, and implement preventative maintenance strategies.

Responsibilities

• Perform fault-finding, repairs, and preventative maintenance on heavy industrial equipment
• Diagnose mechanical failures and implement engineering solutions to maximise uptime and efficiency
• Carry out installation, testing, and commissioning of new equipment both in workshop and on-site environments
• Conduct routine servicing, overhauls, and refurbishments of steel and processing plant and equipment
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications to complete fabrication and assembly tasks
• Ensure all work is delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with InfraBuild standards

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, you will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and optimisation of mechanical systems critical to steel processing and heavy industrial operations. You’ll work with large-scale equipment including hydraulics, pneumatics and processing equipment, ensuring reliability, safety, and efficiency across our sites.

What you will be doing:

• Perform fault-finding, repairs, and preventative maintenance on heavy industrial equipment
• Diagnose mechanical failures and implement engineering solutions to maximise uptime and efficiency
• Carry out installation, testing, and commissioning of new equipment both in workshop and on-site environments
• Conduct routine servicing, overhauls, and refurbishments of steel and processing plant and equipment

• Ensure all work is delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with InfraBuild standards

Hours suited to work/life balance – 2pm to 10:10pm Monday to Friday plus overtime available and paid at overtime rates.

Pay rate – $52.00 - $60.00 (dependent on skills and experience) + 15% afternoon shift loading + 12% super + bonus + overtime, with potential to grow your income as you build experience with us!

What you will bring:

• Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in mechanical fitting within steel, FMCG, heavy industry, or industrial engineering
