Job summary

The Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) is seeking SES Band 2 leaders to shape its direction and position the department for what comes next. As a First Assistant Secretary, you will lead significant functions and people while contributing to strategy, governance and stewardship across policy, programs, service delivery, employment and workforce services.

Demonstrated executive leadership, strategic judgement and delivery in complex environments.
Experience shaping policy development, program delivery and governance.
Ability to work across cross-agency stakeholders and jurisdictions.

Responsibilities

Interpret external environment, identify patterns and strategic risks to position DEWR for future requirements.
Shape consequential policy and strategic choices, frame issues for Ministers and senior executives.
Create coherence across policy, delivery, regulation, people, resources, technology and data.
Turn strategy into outcomes at scale by building leadership depth and accountability.
Lead beyond organizational boundaries by building coalitions across the APS and stakeholder groups.
Drive system-level change to support Closing the Gap with First Nations peoples and communities.
Lead transformation and adaptability to ensure delivery of current and emerging priorities.
Build institutional capability through leadership depth and succession planning.
