Job summary

Connexus Recruitment's client, a leading fire safety specialist in Australia, is hiring a Fire Safety Engineer (Grad/Intermediate) for Sydney CBD. You will work on BCA non-compliance assessments, performance-based fire engineered solutions, occupant and smoke movement, and review design documentation against the Fire Safety Strategy.

Qualifications

My client is one of the longest established fire safety specialists in the country, in the market since 1996. They don't spread themselves across every discipline. Fire safety is all they do, and that focus has built them a reputation at the top end of the market, backed by a group of close to 500 engineers across Australia, New Zealand and the US, while still running lean and close-knit at a local level.

Where they really stand out is what they put into you. The team runs on an almost 1:1 mentoring structure, senior engineers whose job includes getting you up to speed and then some. There's a genuine, structured training program built to take you from where you are now through to a senior role, and if you want to push further, they'll fund your masters in fire engineering. Profit share and equity pathways are also on the table once you're leading the team yourself.

Projects span commercial, residential, health and education, plenty of variety and real ownership from early on. Day to day you'll be across BCA assessments to identify non-compliances, performance-based fire engineered solutions, occupant and smoke movement, design documentation review against the Fire Safety Strategy, construction review, peer reviews of fire engineering assessments, and interim fire safety strategies for staged occupancy during construction.

You'll be in the office building relationships with the team most of the week, a minimum of 3 days once you're settled in, full time for the first few months while you find your feet.

This isn't about ticking off years of experience. The sweet spot is 3+ years, but if you've got 2 and the right attitude, they'll still want to talk. What matters most is genuine motivation to grow, the ability to hold a proper conversation with a client, and local experience so you're across the codes and regulators from day one.
