Job summary

Victorian Government is seeking a Financial Assistance Scheme assessor to review applications and determine eligibility for financial support under the new scheme. You will ensure decisions are evidence-based, fair and trauma-informed, collaborating with other services to improve care for victims.

Role focuses on victims of crime, including family violence, with a commitment to cultural safety and Aboriginal outcomes.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting victims of crime including family violence or sexual assault.
• Ability to read and apply laws, weigh evidence and make sound decisions.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed approaches and sensitivity in handling cases.
• Awareness of Aboriginal workforce strategies and cultural safety.

Responsibilities

• review applications and approve payments under the law, policies and guidelines
• check key evidence and explain what applicants need to provide
• write clear decisions that explain the reasons for your findings
• guide staff to write trauma-informed statements that recognise each victim's experience
• work with other services to support fair decisions and improve care for victims.
