Job summary

The Shift People invites applications for a Commercially minded Financial Analyst – Inventory & Purchasing, based in Byron Bay. The role focuses on inventory accounting, purchasing reconciliations and financial analysis to support a scaling FMCG operation.

You will collaborate with Finance, Supply Chain and Operations to improve data accuracy, strengthen controls and streamline processes as the business grows. 3+ years’ experience and strong Excel skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years’ experience in accounting, financial analysis, inventory accounting or a similar finance role.
  • Strong reconciliation and analytical skills.
  • Experience within FMCG, manufacturing, retail, ecommerce or another inventory-based business.

Responsibilities

  • Own inventory reconciliations between the inventory sub-ledger and general ledger, investigating and resolving variances.
  • Reconcile CIN7 inventory data to Xero and maintain accurate inventory balances.
  • Manage and clear GRNI and GINR balances.
  • Investigate inventory cost variances, discrepancies and unusual stock movements.
  • Support inventory provisions for ageing, excess, slow-moving and obsolete stock.
  • Support stocktakes, inventory adjustments and month-end inventory cut-off.
  • Reconcile purchase orders, goods receipts and supplier invoices, resolving discrepancies.
  • Review inventory-related costs including raw materials, packaging, freight, customs and manufacturing costs.
  • Monitor supplier deposits and ensure prepayments are correctly recognised and cleared.
  • Reconcile key inventory, freight and logistics supplier accounts.
  • Analyse purchase price variances, landed costs, inventory movements and other drivers impacting product costs and margins.
  • Prepare inventory, purchasing and cost reporting for Finance and Supply Chain.
  • Support month-end reporting and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen financial controls, improve data accuracy and streamline reconciliation processes.
  • Work collaboratively across Finance, Supply Chain and Operations to improve systems and processes as the business scales.

About You:

You’re analytical, commercially minded and naturally curious. When something doesn’t reconcile, you want to understand why.

Ideally, you’ll bring:

  • 3+ years’ experience in accounting, financial analysis, inventory accounting or a similar finance role.
  • Strong reconciliation and analytical skills.
  • Experience within FMCG, manufacturing, retail, e-commerce or another inventory-based business.
  • A solid understanding of accounting fundamentals and month-end processes.
  • Strong Excel skills and confidence working with data.
  • Excellent accuracy and attention to detail.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused mindset.
  • The ability to collaborate effectively across Finance, Supply Chain and Operations.
  • CIN7 / DEAR experience is highly desirable.
  • Xero or similar accounting system experience is advantageous.
