Job summary

FMS Group is hiring a Financial Accountant to support day-to-day financial accounting across the group from our Mackay operations. You will maintain general ledger integrity, post journals and assist with month-end close and reporting.

The role requires a tertiary accounting qualification, strong Excel and ERP skills, and the ability to work with AP/AR teams and stakeholders across the business. Prior mining/industrial sector experience is advantageous.

Qualifications

• A tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
• CPA or CA qualification completed or in progress.
• Experience in financial accounting, general ledger maintenance and reconciliations.
• Strong month-end close experience.
• Sound knowledge of journals, accruals, prepayments, fixed assets, intercompany and GST.
• Experience supporting AP and AR teams with accounting and transactional issues.
• Strong Excel and ERP systems skills.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• High attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with Finance and operational stakeholders.
• Experience in mining services, construction, engineering, manufacturing or the resources sector will be highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Maintaining accurate and complete general ledger records.
• Preparing and posting journals, accruals, prepayments, allocations and reclassifications.
• Supporting month-end close and financial reporting processes.
• Preparing and maintaining balance sheet reconciliations.
• Investigating accounting anomalies, coding issues and unreconciled balances.
• Supporting Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable with accounting and system issues.
• Maintaining fixed asset records and depreciation.
• Preparing and reconciling intercompany accounts.
• Supporting BAS/GST, audit and statutory reporting requirements.
• Managing day-to-day cashbook and bank reconciliation activities.
• Preparing and maintaining short- and medium-term cashflow forecasts.
• Identifying opportunities to improve Finance processes, systems and controls.
• Providing financial accounting support to the Financial Controller and broader Finance team.
