Job summary

Q-CTRL in Sydney is seeking a mid-level Financial Accountant to join the Finance team. This full-time, hands-on role supports day-to-day accounting across our global entities, reporting to the Financial Controller.

You will ensure accurate, timely financial reporting for investors and leaders while maintaining strong controls and timely closes. The ideal candidate has 3+ years in a general ledger role, a degree in Accounting/Finance, IFRS/GAAP knowledge, and payroll experience across AU/UK/USA.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in a general ledger accounting role or higher responsibilities.
• CA/CPA qualification in progress or completed is preferred.
• Knowledge of IFRS and GAAP is required.
• Payroll experience across Australia, the UK and/or the USA is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Perform day-to-day accounting tasks including AP/expenses, payroll, banking, and journal entries.
• Assist month-end close with reconciliations and accurate reporting.
• Coordinate with other departments to obtain transaction information and resolve issues.
• Support tax and statutory compliance obligations.
• Assist in preparing notes for financial statements and liaise with auditors.
• Contribute to implementing new procedures to improve workflow.
• Collaborate with operational teams to resolve financial queries.
• Involve in equity transactions and capital projects as opportunities arise.

About the Role

Reporting to the Financial Controller based in Sydney, this newly created Financial Accountant role, is a hands-on position and will assist with all day-to-day accounting functions across our global entities. You are detail-oriented, proactive and process-driven, with a positive attitude and a passion for learning. You take ownership of your work, ensure high-quality outputs, and contribute to streamlined, accurate and timely financial reporting for our investors and business leaders.

Responsibilities

• Hands on day-to-day accounting functions including but not limited to: Accounts Payable/Expenses, Payroll, Banking, Journal Entries, and assisting with managing external contract accountants
• Manage payroll processing, superannuation and related reconciliations, liasoning with Rippling and third party processors on payroll related transactions.
• Assist with accurate and timely month end close by preparing various journal entries and account reconciliations for cash, prepaids, accruals, inter-company, fixed assets and various other accounts.
• Coordinate with other departments to obtain transaction information, research reconciling items, and resolve issues.
• Assist with the preparation and lodgement of tax and statutory compliance obligations.
• Assist and in preparation of financial statements notes and collating information for our financial statement auditors.
• Assist in project implementation of new procedures to enhance the workflow of the department.
• Partner with operational teams across the business to resolve financial queries.
• Opportunities to be involved with various equity transactions and capital projects.

Nice to Have

• 3+ years in a position equivalent to a general ledger accountant/bookkeeper or higher responsibilities.
• Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline - Working towards or completion of CA / CPA qualification.
• Good working knowledge of IFRS, knowledge of GAAP helpful.
• Experience in payroll processes across Australia, UK and/or the USA.
• Experience with Campfire , Ramp, Stripe, (or similar accounting ERP),Google Workspace - Proficiency in Google Sheet/Excel.
• Strong analytical skills and exceptional problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to engage non-finance stakeholders.
• Ability to manage competing deadlines and confidence and adaptability in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving startup environment.
