Job summary

Mars Recruitment is seeking a Financial Accountant for a growing Australian retail finance team. This role supports multiple brands and reports to the CFO, taking ownership of key accounting processes and board reporting.

Ideal candidates have CA/CPA, 4+ years' PQE, and strong month-end, reconciliations, GST/BAS knowledge, with advanced Excel and ERP experience. Based in Melbourne, on-site role with potential process improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Commerce or Finance.
• CA or CPA qualified.
• Minimum four years' post-qualification experience.
• Experience with month-end, financial reporting and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards, GST and BAS.
• Advanced Excel and ERP/cloud accounting experience.

Responsibilities

• Own the month-end close and monthly management accounts.
• Prepare and review P&L, balance sheet and cash flow reporting.
• Maintain balance sheet reconciliations and inventory accounting.
• Manage intercompany accounting across group entities.
• Prepare BAS, IAS and other tax/compliance requirements.
• Support budgets, forecasts and weekly cash flow reporting.
• Contribute to CFO and board reporting packs.
• Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and reporting.
• Provide guidance to Accounts Officer.

Our client is looking for a Financial Accountant to join their growing finance team, supporting multiple brands for their Australian retailers.

Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, this is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of key financial accounting processes, contribute to management and board reporting, and help shape the finance function as our group continues to grow.

What you'll be responsible for:

• Taking ownership of the month-end close and preparation of monthly management accounts.


• Preparing and reviewing P&L, balance sheet and cash flow reporting.


• Maintaining balance sheet integrity, including reconciliations and inventory accounting.


• Managing intercompany accounting and reconciliations across group entities.


• Accounting for retailer rebates, promotional funding, markdowns and trading terms.


• Preparing BAS, IAS and supporting statutory tax and compliance requirements.


• Supporting budgets, forecasts and weekly cash flow reporting.


• Contributing to CFO and board reporting packs.


• Identifying opportunities to improve financial processes, systems and reporting.


• Providing guidance and support to the Accounts Officer.

What we're looking for:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Commerce or Finance.


• CA or CPA qualified.


• Minimum four years' post-qualification experience.


• Strong experience across month-end, financial reporting and balance sheet reconciliations.


• Sound knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards, GST and BAS requirements.


• Advanced Excel skills and experience with an ERP or cloud accounting system.


• A proactive, hands‑on approach with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing deadlines.

Experience in FMCG, retail or consumer goods, particularly inventory accounting, retailer trading terms and multi-entity environments, will be highly regarded.
