Job summary

The Department of Transport and Main Roads in Rockhampton is seeking a Project Advisor (Finance) to lead the six-person Business Support team and oversee financial governance for Fitzroy District’s transport program. This AO5 permanent role offers flexible work arrangements and a chance to deliver accurate budgeting, forecasting and reporting to support transport delivery in Central Queensland.

Qualifications

• Strong financial management and leadership experience.
• Ability to explain financial information clearly and build productive relationships with managers and stakeholders.
• Understanding of governance, risk, internal controls and business continuity.
• Criminal history check will be undertaken before appointment due to access to sensitive information.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day priorities and workload allocation across the Business Support team.
• Coach and support team members while promoting consistent, accountable service delivery.
• Provide advice on budgeting, financial systems, reporting, contracts and related business processes.
• Coordinate forecasts, reconciliations, budget reviews, end-of-month activities and financial returns.
• Monitor financial performance and identify risks, pressures and emerging issues.
• Support financial governance, internal controls, assurance activities and service-related contract oversight.
• Contribute to business continuity planning, exercises, activations, recovery and continuous improvement.
