Job summary

Common Ground Queensland (CGQ) is seeking a Part-time Finance Officer to support the Finance Manager with accurate financial records, payroll processing and compliance duties. This role will suit a values-driven finance professional in a not-for-profit setting.

You will work in partnership with Operations and Tenancy teams to maintain strong financial governance, accountability and continuous improvement while balancing community impact and financial sustainability.

Qualifications

• Experience in finance, bookkeeping or accounting including payroll.
• High proficiency in MYOB or Xero and advanced Excel.
• Comfort working with IT systems and financial software.
• Strong attention to detail, problem solving and analytical ability.
• Proactive and adaptable with continuous improvement mindset.
• Ability to work independently and within a small team.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Bachelor degree in Accounting or Commerce is required.
• Experience with homelessness or not-for-profit sector is desirable.
• Knowledge of policy, procedures and protocols is an advantage.

Common Ground Queensland (CGQ) is a specialist supportive housing organisation providing supportive and affordable housing to people who have experienced or are at risk of homelessness based in South Brisbane. We offer housing to individuals and families in high and medium density single site and dispersed site models.

Our supportive housing approach offers long term, safe and affordable housing that is intentionally linked to personalised support services. Support services for tenants are provided through partner organisations.

CGQ also provides tenancy support to individuals and families in partnership with partner organisations to assist tenants to sustain their tenancies and maintain stable housing outcomes.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Finance Officer supports the Finance Manager and is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, processing payroll and ensuring compliance with financial regulations.

The Finance Officer must be able work in partnership with the Finance Manager, Operations and Tenancy team.

Key Selection Criteria

• Experience in a finance, bookkeeping, or accounting role including payroll.
• A high proficiency level in accounting software (MYOB/Xero) and medium to advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Confidence and skill in working with information technology systems.
• Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills and analytical ability.
• A proactive and adaptable approach, with a willingness to support continuous improvement.
• The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a small team.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
• Bachelor degree in Accounting or Commerce.
• Understanding of or experience in partnering with homeless support services.
