Job summary

Compas Pty Ltd is seeking an APS 6 Finance Officer to join a Federal Government Department for a long-term engagement. The role acts as the conduit between business areas and the Chief Finance Officer (CFO), delivering reporting, advice and analysis with a focus on budget management.

Initial contract till September 2027 with extensions and a requirement for Baseline Clearance or ability to obtain one quickly. Canberra or Brisbane.

Qualifications

• Experienced Finance Business Partner (or accounting in Financial and management reporting)
• Strong experience in project accounting (prefer IT projects and public sector)
• Confident and technically skilled in accounting theory; experienced in the public sector
• CA or CPA qualified or studying for the qualification

Responsibilities

• Act as the conduit between CFO and business areas to facilitate relationships
• Deliver financial advice, analysis and assistance for departmental and administered functions
• Undertake financial analysis to support business planning, projects and investments
• Prepare monthly financial reports for Senior Executive, including variance analysis and full-year forecast
• Assist month-end processes (accruals, prepayments) and end-of-year reporting requirements
• Monitor and review monthly forecasts with stakeholders

Compasis seekingan APS 6 Finance Officer to join a Federal Government Department for a long-term engagement.The ideal candidate will be the conduit between business areas and the Chief Finance Officer (CFO). The role provides reporting, advice and analysis to business areas and to the CFO, with a focus on budget management.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Act as the primary conduit between the CFO and business areas to facilitate and manage effective working relationships;
• Deliver financial advice, analysis and assistance to key stakeholders to inform financial decision-making over both Departmental and Administered Functions;
• Undertake financial analysis to support business planning, projects and investment decisions;
• Prepare monthly financial reports for Senior Executive, including variance analysis, commentary and analysis of the full year forecast.
• Assist and prepare month end processes for business areas (such as accruals, prepayments and assist business areas in End of Financial Year requirements to the financial reporting team.
• Monitor and review monthly forecasts in partnership with our stakeholders.
