Job summary

Shotland Consulting Pty Ltd is seeking a Finance Manager to lead the day-to-day finance function in Seven Hills, NSW. This hands-on role oversees accounting, payroll compliance, budgeting and forecasting while driving improvements in cash flow and cost control.

You will manage offshore resources in the Philippines and partner with operational leaders to enhance job margins and the quality of financial data.

Qualifications

• Five+ years in Australian financial reporting and management accounting.
• Experience in a project-based environment such as manufacturing, construction, contracting or installation.
• Strong costing, WIP, and revenue-recognition knowledge.
• Ability to document and confidently explain a robust costing and revenue-recognition methodology.
• Advanced Excel skills and data modelling capability.

Responsibilities

• Lead the general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, cash flow, month-end close, balance-sheet reconciliations and fixed-asset register.
• Prepare weekly flash reports, monthly management accounts, dashboards, profit and loss statements, workpapers and variance commentary.
• Own annual budgeting, rolling forecasts and cash-flow forecasting, ensuring timely inputs and disciplined follow-through.
• Oversee payroll and employer compliance, including BAS, PAYG withholding, payroll tax, superannuation, Single Touch Payroll, FBT and year-end finalisation.
• Maintain strong internal controls, financial policies and procedures, and coordinate audit and external adviser requirements.
• Manage work in progress across active projects, including job costing, cost accruals, accrued income, income in advance and appropriate revenue recognition across delivery stages.
• Ensure recognised project costs are supported by supplier invoices, reconcile estimates to actuals on completion and investigate job‑level gross‑margin variances.
• Manage stock and inventory valuation across warehouse holdings and imported products.
• Reconcile project and revenue data between the operational pipeline and the accounting ledger.
• Partner with senior and operational leaders to improve margins, pricing discipline, resource allocation and commercial decision‑making.

Reporting directly to senior leadership, the Finance Manager will lead the day‑to‑day finance function and provide accurate, timely and commercially relevant information to support business decisions. This is a hands‑on leadership role with oversight of financial operations, management reporting, payroll compliance, budgeting, forecasting, project accounting, inventory and internal controls. The role also manages offshore finance resources based in the Philippines and partners closely with operational leaders to improve job margins, cash flow, cost control and the quality of financial data across the business.

About you

• A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or a related discipline.
• CA or CPA qualification, or progress towards qualification, is strongly preferred.
• At least five years' relevant experience in Australian financial reporting, management accounting and analysis, ideally within a small‑to‑medium business.
• Demonstrated experience in a project‑based environment such as manufacturing, construction, contracting or installation.
• Practical knowledge of WIP, job costing, cost accruals, inventory valuation and milestone or percentage‑of‑completion revenue recognition.
• Ability to establish, document and confidently explain a robust costing and revenue‑recognition methodology.
• Strong budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow management, variance analysis and financial‑modelling capability.
• Sound knowledge of Australian tax, payroll and statutory reporting obligations.
• Experience leading remote or offshore finance resources and building effective cross‑functional relationships.
• Advanced Excel capability and proficiency with Xero and Microsoft Office; experience with automation or AI‑enabled finance tools is advantageous.
