Job summary

Calvary Christian College Springwood and Carbrook in Townsville, North Queensland, invites an experienced Finance Manager to drive strategic financial leadership across the Calvary Education Group, including Eaton College. You will steward resources to support a Christ-centered mission and enable growth within a supportive, values-based culture.

• Proven financial leadership and governance experience in an educational or charity context.
• Strong budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and cashflow management skills.
• Experience with statutory compliance, audits and government funding programs.

About the role...

We are seeking an experienced and capable Finance Manager who is passionate about Christian education and excited to use their professional expertise to support a growing and influential ministry in beautiful Townsville, North Queensland. The successful applicant will actively support the Christian mission, vision, values and ethos of the College while contributing to a positive and collaborative workplace culture.

Reporting to the Business Manager, you will lead and continuously strengthen the finance function across the Calvary Education Group, including Eaton College.

This is more than a traditional finance role. You will be a trusted financial leader, providing strategic advice, supporting sound decision-making and ensuring the College's resources are stewarded effectively for long-term sustainability.

Key responsibilities include:

• Strategic financial planning, budgeting and forecasting
• Financial reporting to Leadership, Committees and the Board
• Treasury, cashflow and financial risk management
• Payroll oversight and strong internal controls
• Taxation, audit and statutory compliance
• Government funding and reporting requirements
• Asset and capital project management
• Leadership, mentoring and development of the Finance Team

What we are looking for?

To be successful in this role, you will hold a current positive Working with Children Check or the ability to obtain and satisfy all required pre-employment screening requirements.

To thrive in this role, you will bring:

• Christian commitment: A genuine commitment to Christian education and alignment with Calvary’s mission, values and ethos.
• Financial leadership: Proven experience across budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, cashflow, audit and internal controls.
• Technical expertise: Strong knowledge of accounting standards, taxation, payroll, funding and statutory compliance.
• People leadership: The ability to lead, develop and support a high-performing Finance Team.
• Systems and analytical skills: Strong financial systems and data analysis capability, with a focus on improving processes and controls.
• Communication and organisation: Strong communication, problem-solving and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.

Highly regarded, but not essential:

• Degree qualification in Business, Commerce, Accounting or a related discipline.
• CPA or CA membership.
• Previous experience working within a school or education environment.
• Experience with TASS or a comparable school management system will be advantageous.
