Job summary

Bechtel is delivering the Eva Copper Project in Queensland and seeks a welding engineer to lead and maintain global construction field welding programs, manage the welding lab, rod room, weld heat treatment, and laboratory quality plan. You will provide technical advice to fix defects before final inspection.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering with 5–8 years of experience and the ability to obtain unescorted site access; you will support field superintendents and crafts

• Minimum 5–8 years welding and heavy construction experience.
• Knowledge of welding codes, quality programs and field support.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates work activities for Project Field Engineer and the Lead Field Welding engineer in implementing the site welding program.
• Implements and maintains Bechtel Field Welding program for all welding operations.
• Provides technical assistance to field superintendents and crafts.
• Ensures personnel are educated and aware of applicable code and project requirements.
• Oversees post weld heat treatment coordination and welding QA processes.

Project Overview:

It is located in Cloncurry on the traditional lands of the Kalkadoon people. The Project is owned by Harmony, a world-class gold and copper mining and development company with assets in South Africa, Australia, and Papua New Guinea.Bechtel is delivering the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) scope for the Eva Copper Process Plant and Non-Process Infrastructure. Bechtel is providing these EPC services across all disciplines and functions for this exciting capital project.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will lead, implement, and maintain global construction field welding programs and provide specialized welding engineering support. You will manage, inspect, and monitor the welding test lab, the rod room, the weld heat treatment program, and the laboratory quality plan. Your technical advice will help ensure defects, behaviors, and other issues are rectified prior to final inspection.

Major Responsibilities:

• Coordinates work activities for Project Field Engineer and the Lead Field Welding engineer in implementing the site welding program on medium projects
• Implements and maintains Bechtel Field Welding program for all welding operations.
• Provides technical assistance to field superintendents and crafts.
• Ensures that all supervision and craft personnel involved in welding operations are educated and aware of applicable code and project requirements.

Additional Requirements for Post Weld Heat Treatment Coordinator

• Coordinates work activities of subcontractor and direct hire pre/ PWHT personnel.
• Possesses working knowledge of Bechtel's corporate pre/PWHT procedure (PHT-2) and other welding procedures / standards.
• Supports the crafts in meeting cost and schedules.

Additional Requirements for Welding Automation

• Reviews site Welding, PWHT and NDE subcontractor documentation of daily work for technical accuracy
• Performs Visual and other examination methods in accordance with project developed procedures and standards.

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering and 5 - 8 years’ experience or equivalent experience
• 8 years welding and heavy construction related experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• Working knowledge of current industry quality construction procedures and standards.
• Must be computer literate in Microsoft word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
• Must have the right to work and remain in Australia.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain unescorted site access
• Must be able to climb ladders and be able to handle the wearing of protective clothing from contamination.
• Experience with, or exposure to Bechtel innovations such as WITS, Smart Completions, and/or Advanced Work Packaging (AWP).
