We support healthy and liveable communities by delivering water, sewerage and recycled water services to 1.77 million people who rely on us every day and every night. At South East Water, we innovate with purpose and act with care to deliver healthy water for life. Fresh thinking and collaboration are at the heart of our organisation. The role

We're looking for an experienced Field Test Engineer to join our Operational Technology team within the Enterprise Transformation and Delivery group.

This is a hands‑on role where you'll work across South East Water's operational network to test, diagnose and resolve issues with digital water meters, Internet of Things (IoT) devices, data loggers, sensors and communication technologies.

You'll use your technical expertise to investigate faults, analyse device data and logs, undertake field testing, and work with vendors and technical teams to resolve issues.

Your work will help keep our digital monitoring and metering technology reliable and performing at its best, supporting accurate operational data, better asset performance and positive customer outcomes.

Who are you?

You're a problem solver with strong analytical skills, built from experience working with digital metering technologies, data loggers, sensors, telemetry equipment and communication protocols such as cellular, LPWAN, NB‑IoT, LoRaWAN or equivalent technologies.

You’ll have experience in:

  • Field-based diagnosis, testing and maintenance of digital devices, instrumentation, telemetry systems, IoT technologies or industrial communications networks.
  • Retrieving and interpreting device logs, diagnostic information and performance data for troubleshooting purposes.
  • Interpreting technical documentation, specifications, schematics and installation standards.
  • Working with vendors and technical support teams to investigate and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Working with asset management, service management or work management systems.

A tertiary qualification in Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, Telecommunications or Information Technology would be well suited to the role. We also welcome candidates with equivalent industry experience in a relevant technical field.

A significant part of this role involves working in the field and travelling across our operational network. A current Victorian driver licence and willingness to regularly undertake field‑based work are essential.
