ProFound People Pty Ltd is seeking a Field Service Mechanical Technician to service, maintain and repair engines at operating sites around Australia. The role involves travel to customer sites for scheduled servicing, overhauls, breakdown repairs and fault finding on large stationary gas engines and related equipment.
Ideal candidates bring a strong mechanical trades background with understanding of electrical and control systems.
An established industrial field service business with technicians working across several states is growing its mechanical team and is now hiring a Field Service Mechanical Technician to service, maintain and repair engines at operating sites around Australia.
In this role you will travel to customer sites to carry out scheduled servicing, overhauls, breakdown repairs and fault finding on large stationary gas engines and their associated equipment, working through each job from initial inspection to recommissioning. Around 85% of the work is mechanical heavy fitting, so the role calls for a strong mechanical tradesperson with a working understanding of electrical and control systems, rather than an electrician or a dual qualified technician. You will be expected to contribute from day one, bringing established engine knowledge and the safety habits that come with working in the gas and oil environment, while the business trains you in its own techniques and ways of working on the equipment it supports. Over time there is scope to build restricted electrical capability for testing, diagnostics and component changes, but this is a role for someone whose mechanical foundations are already in place rather than someone looking to learn the trade. You will be part of a field team spread across several states, supported by an office and workshop in Sydney. It suits someone who is comfortable spending extended periods on remote sites, enjoys working through a problem until the engine is running properly again, and can adapt when a two-week service turns into a longer job. The ideal background is one shaped by maintaining industrial gas or diesel engines in the field, rather than automotive, light vehicle or purely workshop-based work.
This is a full-time role based out of a workshop in Sydney, with candidates within easy reach of a Sydney airport best placed (Mascot or Western Sydney airport). Candidates based in Brisbane or the Gold Coast will also be considered where they can mobilise independently to sites. The work is roughly half within New South Wales and half interstate, covering regional and remote locations across New South Wales, Queensland and the Northern Territory, with travel by both air and road. The standard roster is 5 days on and 2 days off, although service assignments often run between 10 and 18 days, followed by several days off depending on the length of the job. Accommodation, meals and travel are covered while working away. Candidates must hold full Australian working rights.
