Job summary

Hopwoods Repairs in South Gippsland, Victoria, is seeking an experienced Field Service Technician for a mobile role across the region. You will diagnose, test, maintain and repair electronically controlled domestic and commercial appliances at customer premises, applying strong fault-finding and customer service skills.

Ideal candidates will have hands-on electrical/electronic diagnostic ability, the capacity to interpret wiring diagrams, and the initiative to work independently while delivering

Responsibilities

• Diagnose electrical and electronic faults in domestic and commercial appliances.

• Use diagnostic tools to verify repairs and identify faults.
• Interpret wiring diagrams and service information to guide repairs.
• Repair/replace defective modules, wiring and components as needed.
• Provide accurate technical reports and parts requirements.
• Explain faults and repairs to customers and ensure correct operation.

Approx. $28–$40/hr depending on skills and experience

We’re looking for an experienced Field Service Technician to join our growing team at Hopwoods Repairs.

This is a hands-on mobile role working across South Gippsland, diagnosing, testing, maintaining and repairing electronically controlled domestic and commercial appliances at customer premises.

The role suits someone who enjoys fault-finding, solving problems and taking ownership of getting equipment operating correctly again. You’ll need strong electrical and electronic diagnostic skills, a methodical approach to repairs and the ability to work independently while providing professional customer service.

What you’ll be doing

• Diagnosing electrical and electronic faults in domestic and commercial appliances
• Testing control boards, sensors, wiring, motors, heating circuits and other electrical and electronic components
• Using multimeters and other diagnostic equipment to identify faults and verify repairs
• Interpreting wiring diagrams, fault codes, service manuals and manufacturer technical information
• Repairing, adjusting or replacing defective control modules, wiring, sensors, switches, motors and associated components
• Accessing and using manufacturer diagnostic modes and service programs where applicable
• Reassembling appliances and completing operational, functional and safety testing following repairs
• Completing accurate technical reports, job records, photographs and parts requirements
• Explaining identified faults, completed repairs and correct equipment operation to customers
• Carrying out preventative servicing and maintenance where required

About you

We’re looking for someone who is technically capable, practical and comfortable working independently in the field.

You will ideally have:

• Demonstrated experience diagnosing and repairing electronically controlled equipment
• Strong electrical and electronic fault-finding skills
• Experience using electrical and electronic test instruments
• The ability to interpret wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, fault codes and technical service information
• Knowledge of electronic control boards, sensors, wiring, motors and control systems
• A relevant trade or technical qualification in electronics, electrical or electronic servicing, appliance servicing or a closely related field, or equivalent substantial industry experience
• The ability to manage your time effectively in a mobile field-service environment
• Professional written and verbal communication skills
• A practical approach to problem solving and a willingness to take ownership of customer outcomes
• Experience servicing washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, electric ovens, cooktops, rangehoods and refrigerators will be highly regarded.
