Job summary

Walcha Council in Walcha Shire is seeking a practical Ranger to manage companion animals, parking, public compliance, and sewage inspections across the shire. You’ll protect community standards, care for stray animals, and provide relief coverage for Uralla Council.

You’ll operate with a mix of field and office duties, delivering education campaigns and on-call support, with a fully equipped vehicle and mobile tech to keep you connected in the field.

Qualifications

• Certificate IV or higher in Local Government (or progress toward).
• Dog handling experience or relevant certification.
• Current First Aid Certificate.
• Knowledge of the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997.
• Strong track record in community education and conflict resolution.

Responsibilities

• Administer the Companion Animals Act and care for stray animals
• Investigate and resolve customer compliance requests and complaints
• Enforce Shire parking, footway, and public place regulations
• Conduct on-site sewage management inspections and issue approvals
• Deliver community education campaigns on animal welfare and dumping
• Provide shared on-call ranger coverage and leave relief
