Job summary

IFYS on the Sunshine Coast is seeking a Family Support Worker to join the Young Parents Support Program. You will deliver early intervention services to young pregnant women, their partners, young parents and children, helping to improve health and wellbeing and strengthen families.

This fixed term, part-time role is based in Maroochydore with travel across the Sunshine Coast and access to in-house training opportunities and wellbeing benefits.

Qualifications

  • Degree or higher in a relevant field preferred.
  • Experience supporting young people or families, ideally within early intervention.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to build trust and maintain boundaries.
  • Experience delivering support services such as casework, group facilitation, mediation or counselling.
  • Familiar with contemporary practice frameworks and tools.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver early intervention services to meet the needs of the target group.
  • Provide direct support including counseling, family work, mediation and advocacy.
  • Implement evidence-based practice frameworks in service delivery.
  • Ensure funding and program outcomes meet standards and reporting requirements.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to coordinate responses to client needs.

The opportunity

IFYS has an exciting opportunity for a Family Support Workerto join the Sunshine Coast Young Parent’s Support Program (YPSP).

The Family Support Worker delivers early intervention support services to young pregnant women, their partners, young parents and their children.

The service offers individual and group supports aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of children, young people and families while also building the capacity of families to care for and protect their children and assists to strengthen community links and support networks.

Key responsibilities
  • Implement and deliver early intervention services to meet the target group's needs
  • Provide direst support services to the target group, including; basic personal counseling, family work, mediation, group work, advocacy, practical support information and referral
  • Implement a practical framework which reflects contemporary research and evidence based models of working with the target group
  • Ensure that funding body requirements, program outcomes and service standards are met
  • Work collaboratively and creatively with key stakeholders, and be responsive to opportunities for innovation and collaboration to assist in providing coordinated responses to the needs of the target group
To be successful in this role you will have:
  • Tertiary undergraduate degree or higher qualifications in a relevant area of study is favourable
  • Demonstrated experience supporting young people or young families, ideally within early intervention or family support programs.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust, work respectfully with young parents, and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Experience delivering support services, such as casework, group facilitation, mediation, advocacy or basic counselling
  • Experience in contemporary practice frameworks and tools
Must hold or be willing to obtain if successful:
  • QLD Working with Children Check (Blue Card)
  • QLD Yellow Card or NDIS Worker Screening Check
  • Valid Queensland open driver's license with no restrictions
  • Licensed Care Suitability Check (LCS2)
  • National Criminal History Check (a new check will be requested through IFYS systems)
  • Ability to provide two recent line manager references including your current employer
