Job summary

IFYS is seeking a Disability Support Worker to provide daily assistance in Supported Independent Living settings across the Sunshine Coast. You’ll use a strengths-based approach to help participants gain independence, life skills and personal goals.

Open to experienced workers or newcomers with motivation to learn; casual role with potential move to part-time, immediate start pending licensing and compliance. Training is provided, including Maybo safety instruction.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting people with disability, either professionally or through lived experience.
  • Genuine interest in entering the field with relevant study completed or in progress.
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency for documentation.
  • Flexible availability to work a rotating roster (may include day, afternoon, night, sleepovers and weekend shifts).
  • Physical capability to perform manual handling tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Assist individuals with daily living activities and personal care.
  • Support activities and appointments to promote independence.
  • Help with life skills, recreation, learning and community access.
  • Document daily notes, admin tasks and incident reports.
  • Support behaviour strategies under Positive Behaviour Support Plans.

The opportunity

As a Disability Support Worker, you’ll provide daily support to individuals in Supported Independent Living (SIL) arrangements. You’ll use a strengths-based approach to help participants build independence, develop life skills, and achieve personal goals.

This opportunity is open to experienced support workers and those new to the sector who are motivated to make a meaningful contribution and committed to learning and growing in the role.

A day in the role of a Disability Support Worker
  • Work with individuals to maintain personal care and cleanliness of the house
  • Plan and attend activities or appointments
  • Assist with skill development for independent living, recreation, learning, and community access
  • Use daily routines to provide hands on training of life skills such as cooking, personal care and budgeting
  • Support and manage individuals behaviours utilising Positive Behaviour Support Plans
  • Complete daily case notes, admin tasks and incident reports
Skills And Requirements
  • Experience supporting people with disability, either professionally or through lived experience
  • OR a genuine interest in entering the field of work with relevant study completed or in progress
  • Cert IV in Mental Health or Mental Health First Aid (desirable, not essential)
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills
  • Computer proficiency for documentation
  • Flexible availability to work a rotating roster (may include day, afternoon and active night, sleepovers and weekend shifts)
  • Physical capability to perform manual handling tasks
Must hold or be willing to obtain if successful
  • Paid Workers Blue Card (Working with Children Check)
  • NDIS Workers Screening Check (Yellow Card)
  • Child Safety Personal History Check (LCS2)
  • National Crime Check (IFYS will complete a new check through our systems)
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Current QLD Driver Licence with a clear traffic history
  • Willingness to use your own roadworthy, comprehensively insured vehicle (if required)
Other Requirements

If you progress beyond the interview stage, you’ll be asked to provide contact details for two line managers to complete reference checks. This must include your current employer.
