Job summary

IFYS in Bundaberg is seeking a Residential Youth Worker to provide day-to-day care in a residential setting. You will support young people to manage behaviours, plan activities aligned with Case Plans, and help develop life skills through daily routines, including cooking and budgeting.

The role includes completing admin tasks and transporting clients to various commitments. Ideal candidates have a Blue Card, a valid QLD driver's license, and are available for varied shifts; background checks

Qualifications

  • QLD Working with Children Blue Card or application in process
  • Current Queensland drivers license with no restrictions
  • Two references from recent employers (including current line manager)
  • Certificate IV or higher in a relevant field prior to commencing work
  • Availability for a variety of shifts over a fortnightly roster
  • Background screenings including LCS2 and National Crime Check

Responsibilities

  • Provide a safe and therapeutic environment for young people to grow and learn
  • Support and manage young peoples complex and challenging behaviours in a consistent and calm manner
  • Build rapport while maintaining professional boundaries
  • Plan individual and group activities to meet needs and goals per Case Plans
  • Use daily routines to teach life skills (cooking, budgeting, personal care)
  • Complete petty cash, case notes and incident reports timely
  • Transport clients to school, work, appointments, and other commitments

About The Opportunity

The IFYS Child Protection Residential Care Programs support children and young people needing a safe, dependable, and nurturing living environment. Reporting to the Case Manager, Residential Youth Workers deliver the day-to-day care to young people in the Residential Care house.

A day in the role of a Residential Youth Worker may include supporting young people to manage challenging behaviours, planning or attending activities and following daily routines to promote life-skills development. Residential Youth Workers complete case notes and admin tasks daily as well as helping to maintain a clean and safe environment.

Candidates with transferrable skills from working with vulnerable people who display challenging behaviours are strongly encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide a safe and therapeutic environment for young people to grow and learn
  • Support and manage young people’s complex and challenging behaviours in a consistent and calm manner
  • Build rapport and remain non-judgmental whilst maintaining professional boundaries
  • Plan individual and group activities to meet the young people’s needs and goals in line with Case Plans
  • Use daily routines to provide hands on training of life skills such as cooking, budgeting, and personal care
  • Timely and accurate completion of administrative duties including petty cash, case notes, and incident reports
  • Transport clients to school, work, appointments and other commitments
Essential Requirements
  • A QLD Working with Children Blue Card or have applied for one
  • Current Queensland driver's license with no restrictions
  • Ability to provide two references from recent employers (including your current line manager)
  • Already hold or are enrolled in a Certificate IV or higher in a relevant field prior to commencing work (IFYS can provide advice/more information on this)
  • Availability for a variety of different shifts over a fortnightly roster (day/evening/sleepover/weekend)
  • As part of our recruitment process, we do a number of history screenings including a Licensed Care Suitability check (LCS2) and a National Crime Check
