Job summary

C&K Mackay Family and Children Centre is seeking a Family Support Officer to work with families and carers, delivering strengths-based support to improve outcomes for children aged 0–8. The role operates within a multidisciplinary team and centres on culturally safe, community-connected practice.

You'll contribute to family resilience, wellbeing, and early intervention, with a focus on building positive relationships and supporting attendance at services offered by the centre in Mackay, QLD.

Qualifications

  • Experience delivering brief interventions, counselling and/or mediation services.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with families and partners.
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary team and managing priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Support families to build resilience and strengthen wellbeing for children aged 0–8.
  • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to plan and deliver family support services.

Mackay Children and Family Centre is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander service that provides access to integrated early childhood education and care, parenting and family support, and child and maternal health services. Our centre incorporates a Long Day Care Centre and a Community Hub, designed to work together as an integrated service that supports children and families to thrive.

As our Family Support Officer, you'll join a supportive multidisciplinary team, working alongside families to build resilience, strengthen wellbeing and create positive outcomes for children aged 0-8 years. Using a strengths-based and culturally safe approach, you'll empower families to thrive.

  • Permanent Full-time position
  • Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm.
  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identity is desirable for this role and will be highly regarded due to the nature of the work and the communities we serve. This is not an identified position, and all suitably qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.

We strongly uphold our child safety policies and procedures. To thrive in this role, you'll have:

  • A current Police Check, Blue Card and National Child Safety Training Foundation Certificate, or the ability to obtain prior to commencement.
  • Experience delivering brief interventions, counselling and/or mediation services.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the strengths, challenges, risk factors and protective factors that impact Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and children.
  • Demonstrated experience working from a strengths-based framework, with sound knowledge of child development and positive parenting approaches.
  • Sound understanding of child protection principles and practices.
  • A commitment to early intervention strategies that support positive outcomes for children and families.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams while also managing priorities independently.
  • The ability to build and maintain strong relationships with families, community partners and key stakeholders.
  • A working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite.
  • A current open driver's licence and willingness to drive a 12-seater bus when required.
