Job summary

DCM Lawyers in Melbourne CBD/Caroline Springs seeks an experienced Family Lawyer to join our team. You will manage a broad range of family law matters, including property settlements and parenting arrangements, with direct mentorship from LIV Accredited Family Law Specialist partners.

You may work from our CBD or Caroline Springs office, carrying your own file load and guiding clients through challenging times with empathy and professionalism.

Qualifications

• 4+ years PAE practising in family law.
• Ability to run family law files end-to-end with supervision where required.
• Strong knowledge of the Family Law Act 1975 (Cth) and current case law.
• Exceptional communication skills, with empathy and professionalism.

Responsibilities

• Manage a broad range of family law matters from initial consultation to resolution.
• Brief counsel and experts, and appear at mentions, interim hearings and conciliation conferences where appropriate.
• Provide clear explanations of legal processes to clients in plain terms.
• Assist and mentor junior lawyers as needed.

Family Lawyer, 4+ years PAE (Melbourne CBD / Caroline Springs) - Hybrid working arrangements & flexibility for 4 or 5 day work week.

About us

DCM Lawyers is a well-established boutique law firm with offices in newly fitted heritage space on Collins Street in the Melbourne CBD and with a strong permanent presence in Caroline Springs. We have an opportunity for an experienced family lawyer to join our team.

The role

We value flexibility, a positive team environment and delivering exceptional outcomes for our clients. The successful applicant will join our Family Law team and have direct mentorship from our LIV Accredited Family Law Specialist partner and our other experienced lawyers.

We are open to the role being based out of either our CBD office or our Caroline Springs office. You will be expected to carry your own file load and run matters from initial consultation through to resolution, working directly with clients to understand their circumstances and objectives and guiding them through what is often a difficult time in their lives.

You will manage a broad range of family law matters, including property settlements, parenting arrangements, consent orders, binding financial agreements, and family violence matters. There is no legal aid work. You will have autonomy in the running of your files, with support from junior and senior practitioners as required.

You will brief counsel and experts, and appear at mentions, interim hearings and conciliation conferences where appropriate.

About you

We are looking for an experienced family lawyer with the following skills:

• 4+ years PAE practising in family law;
• Demonstrated ability to run family law files end-to-end with supervision where required;
• Strong knowledge of the Family Law Act 1975 (Cth), the Court's rules and practice directions, and current case law;
• Exceptional communication skills, with empathy and professionalism in emotionally charged situations;
• Experience representing clients in Mentions, Directions Hearings, and Mediations with and without counsel;
• Understands and explains complex legal processes and concepts to clients in plain terms;
• Ability to draft applications, affidavits, financial statements, consent orders and binding financial agreements;
• Demonstrated history of working with counsel, single expert witnesses and Independent Children's Lawyers as required;
• Thrives in team environments and has an 'open door' mentality and a keenness to teach junior lawyers;
• Familiarity with LEAP is a bonus but not essential.
• Aspirations to become an Accredited Specialist will be encouraged and supported.

The ideal candidate will have 4+ years PAE and the key skills required to run family law files end-to-end.

The position is full time however we are open to the position being done as part-time (4 days per week) including hybrid working arrangements where possible.
